Menhaden Wins Three Student Emmys

Washington, June 16, 2012 — American University students won top honors in three categories at the 54th Emmy Awards June 16 at the Newseum in Washington, DC.

The AU filmmakers won student Emmys for Outstanding Documentary, Photography, and Editing. Accepting the award for their Outstanding Documentary, Menhaden: The Most Important Fish in the Bay, were (L-R) Helenah Swedberg, Ali Ogden, Jennifer Stratton, Sandy Cannon-Brown, Gillian Ray, and Sarah Gulick. Brian Kelley, Tony Azios and Jordan Brown were unable to attend. The film premiered on Maryland Public Television in April as part of Chesapeake Bay Week.

Menhaden: The Most Important Fish in the Bay was produced for Sandy Cannon-Brown’s Environmental & Wildlife Production class, an initiative of the AU Center for Environmental Filmmaking.
